Meeting Capture

IdeaLift can analyze your Teams meeting transcripts and automatically extract feature requests, bug reports, and product ideas — turning conversations into actionable tickets.

How to Use

idea meeting <teams-meeting-url>

Paste any Teams meeting link. IdeaLift will fetch the transcript, analyze it with AI, and present extracted items for you to review before creating tickets.

What IdeaLift Extracts

IdeaLift uses AI to identify actionable product work. It categorizes items into four types:

Features

Explicit capability requests or user needs ("We need bulk export", "Customers can't find X")

Bugs

Broken behavior or things not working as expected ("Login fails after 5 minutes")

Ideas

Product-related ideas that are less concrete ("What if we added AI to search?")

Action Items

Clear engineering/product tasks mentioned in the meeting

What Gets Filtered Out

IdeaLift is trained to skip non-product conversations:

  • Scheduling and logistics ("Let's meet next week")
  • Status updates ("It's deployed now", "The PR was merged")
  • Decisions without implementation work ("We agreed to use React")
  • Generic brainstorming ("We should do a hackathon")
  • Vague improvements without specifics ("Make it better")

Requirements for Meeting Capture

  • Meeting transcription must be enabled in your Teams admin settings
  • The meeting must have a transcript (recording not required — just transcription)
  • You must be the meeting organizer, or your admin must configure Application Access Policy for ad-hoc meetings

Troubleshooting

Bot not responding?

Make sure IdeaLift is installed in the channel and your workspace is connected at idealift.app

Ideas not syncing?

Verify your GitHub, Linear, or Jira integration is connected in Settings → Integrations

Permission errors?

Ask your Teams admin to approve the IdeaLift app for your organization

Can't access meeting transcripts?

For "Meet Now" (ad-hoc) meetings, your admin needs to configure Application Access Policy. See the Admin Setup Guide

Advanced: Admin Configuration

For full meeting transcript access including ad-hoc "Meet Now" meetings, your Teams administrator needs to configure Application Access Policy.

When is this needed?

  • Not needed: Scheduled meetings where you are the organizer
  • Needed: "Meet Now" ad-hoc meetings
  • Needed: Accessing meetings organized by others
