Migrate from Trello
Move your feature request board to IdeaLift
Migration Overview
Export your Trello board as JSON (available on all plans, including free), then upload it to IdeaLift. We parse the full board structure — cards become ideas, lists become statuses, and labels become tags.

Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Export Your Trello Board
- Open your Trello board
- Click Show Menu (or the … icon) in the top-right
- Click More
- Click Print and Export
- Select Export as JSON
- A .json file will download with your full board data
Note: JSON export is available on all Trello plans (including free). CSV export requires a paid plan, which is why we use JSON instead.
Step 2: Upload to IdeaLift
- Go to Dashboard → Import
- Click Trello in the "Import from Tool Export" section
- Select the JSON file you exported from Trello
- IdeaLift parses the board structure automatically
Step 3: Review & Import
- Preview the parsed cards — you'll see titles, tags, and status mapping
- Archived cards are skipped by default
- Click Import to complete the migration
List-to-Status Mapping
Trello list names are automatically mapped to IdeaLift statuses based on common naming conventions:
| Trello List Name | IdeaLift Status |
|---|---|
| To Do / Backlog / Ideas / Inbox | Captured |
| Up Next / Ready / Planned | Planned |
| In Progress / Doing | In Progress |
| Review / In Review | Under Review |
| Done / Complete / Shipped | Shipped |
| Other list names | Captured (default) |
